Making natural safe skincare available for those who care

Our first essential oil garden was created to value and protect a special piece of land south of Nairobi. Our small-scale farm has stunning views and abundant wildlife — a place that restores connection, with yourself, others, and nature. After a period of experimentation and research, challenged by erratic rainfall, relatively poor soils, and roaming wildlife, we discovered that essential oil plants were well suited to the environment.

While following an aromatherapy course, Anna discovered the healing properties of essential oils and hydrosols — a by-product of steam distillation — and their effectiveness in skincare products. Struggling to find affordable, truly natural products locally for her sun-damaged skin, she began creating her own. Robyne, her daughter, who has very sensitive skin, eagerly tested the results. During her pregnancy, she was also careful to use only natural products she could trust on her body.

After completing a natural skincare formulation course, we decided to share these carefully created products with others, and Essentials Kenya was born — rooted in simplicity, transparency and effectiveness.

At the heart of our products are hydrosols, steam-distilled from medicinal, naturally scented plants grown in our gardens. Rich in water-soluble plant nutrients, they can be applied directly to the skin, making them gentle yet effective. Our carrier oils — including baobab, coconut, and moringa — are locally sourced from Kenyan producers who apply sustainable and regenerative farming practices, ensuring products that care for your skin while respecting and protecting their land.
